This is an excellent movie to show friends, relatives, and children why you are a Buddhist practitioner and what your practice is all about. One of the few explicit references to Buddhism, is when Socrates, Nick Nolte, is referred to as "Big Buddha." But generally speaking, while the meaning of the film may be Buddhist dharma, the packaging is not Buddhist. Socrates reminds me a lot of Don Juan, the benefactor of Carlos Castenda. It is also an excellent film if you are new to Buddhism and want to know what it is really about.
