[edit] Blurb
Several actors and actresses who are underworked, are hired to “update” the passion play for a Catholic Church. What they end up producing is a living Stations of the Cross that is very well-received by the public. But it is not well-received by the Catholic Church administration.
The actor, Daniel (Lothaire Bluteau) who plays Jesus in this passion play, begins taking on many of Jesus’ characteristics in his own life, refusing to compromise his art for the sake of wealth and fame. We are shown what a current day story of Jesus might look like while watching a parallel story that is the interpretation of Jesus’ actual life.
An important point was made in this film that most Passion Plays gloss over: we have no concept of what it was like to live in Jesus’ time. We can barely relate to what it was like to live 200 years ago, and Jesus lived 2000 years ago.[1]
