This is a documentary filming the lives of the monks at the Grande Chartreuse monastery in the French Alps. Philip Groning, the filmmaker, lived alone with the Carthusian monks for six months. He filmed their daily tasks and prayers, and did not add any score or voiceovers typical of a documentary.
